My Top 6 Photo Editing Apps

Emma Jensen

I love editing photos and videos. It is quite possibly my favorite way to pass the time. Over the past few years, I have searched and searched for the best photo editing apps and I finally have a few favorites that I need to tell you about ASAP - enjoy!

DazzCam

I think a lot of people know about this one and that’s okay. I think I first heard about it in a YouTube video or TikTok. A while ago, the filters featured on this app became quite popular. The hype has somewhat died down, but I still keep it on hand. In DazzCam you are allowed to upload your photos or take pictures straight from within the app. My favorite way to edit on this app is to choose the Insta C camera and remove the borders. This gives the picture a disposable look (which is very popular right now!)

Facetune

I know what you may be thinking, but facetune can do a lot more than over blur your face. Understand that when you’re using this app it is important to remember that less is more. In this app I use two things. First, the patch tool. The patch tool is great for removing blemishes, but if you decide to use the smooth tool don’t do so much! It can leave your photo looking heavily edited and weird looking. Lastly I use the whiten tool. This is great for teeth (and probably what it’s meant for), but also backgrounds! I love using the whiten tool to whiten the backgrounds of my photos. It makes it look clean and adds to the saturation of the subject in your photo.

VSCO

I won’t spend too long on this one, but I will mention it because it’s goated. VSCO has great filters and you can also share your photos to your VSCO account. It’s a great app, and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, what are you doing? My biggest tip is to turn up the highlights on your photos (and maybe a little grain). Lastly, my favorite filters are 04, A4, C8, KK2, and B5.

Prequel

Prequel is a very unique editing app that I think everyone should try. There are tons of unique filters for anyone’s taste. Personally, I try not to use this app too much, because some filters can get a bit repetitive, however, it’s a great option to try and play around with.

Avatan

I don’t remember where or how I found this app but I’m glad I did. I feel like it’s not well known and sometimes I forget I even have it downloaded. With this app, it’s all about the details. You can add frames, overlays, textures, stickers, and more! Personally, my favorite thing to do in this app is the “golden hour” effect. It makes a shadow on your picture that reflects the blinds as if it’s golden hour. It’s a great app for more creative minds. A cool feature is putting frames on your picture to look like a Kodak picture!

Picsart

I don’t use Picsart as much as I used to, but if you are looking for an app that allows you the freedom of creativity, this is the photo app for you. There are so many picsart tutorials out there to give you ideas on what you can do to edit. You can draw, use templates, make collages and slideshows, or just simply edit a photo. In this app, you can even mess around with masks and cutouts. One of my proudest moments in editing was with this app when I made my own custom lockscreen of me and my best friend! So fun, and very easy to figure out. Trust me, if I can do it you can too.

BONUS: Dispo

Many people have already heard of this app, but I know some of my friends hadn't. This app was made by David Dobrik and mimics the look and feel or a disposable camera. This app is really unique because it lets you take pictures but you have to wait for them to “develop” in order to see them. What this means, is that you will be able to see your photos by 9 am the next morning. It adds a lot more excitement into taking pictures and gives you the overall feeling that a disposable camera would. If you don’t want to spend the money on an actual disposable camera, I would highly recommend this one. The end result photos are always fun to look at and you can always add edits and filters on the photo later to add a more disposable look.
