Life Update: March 2023
Long time, no talk.
Life has been super crazy over the past year that this account has gone unoccupied. With that being said I thought I should provide a small glimpse into what my life has looked like since we last had a conversation.
To start, I graduated with my Bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in Journalism & Mass Communication with a minor in General Business. To my surprise, and I'm sure many others, I graduated a semester early and, in turn, got thrown into the real world faster than I anticipated. My last few semesters of college, while entertaining, were not easy. I took some really interesting classes like Social Media Marketing and Diversity in the Media. Along with some not so fun ones like Accounting and Statistics. I've had some fantastic professors that I will never forget, and some that I wish I could. I've met some very cool people and have grown closer to the ones I spend every second of every day with. My college experience was a good one, even with Covid happening second semester of my freshman year, I still feel like I got to experience everything I wanted to while in college.
Before graduating, I quickly started to look for jobs. I was still working at my internship that I started in my sophomore year, but realized that I would have to get a "big girl job" soon. So, my anxiety would not let me wait any longer. I applied for two jobs. I got interviews for both. I got past the first round of both. Then, I got a job offer from one while I was still waiting on the other place to come to a decision. However, I knew in my heart that I wanted this job and I took the offer as soon as it came my way. (The other job ended contacting me, but I had to politely decline moving forward in any other process of employment.) I was so excited to finally have a full-time job. It especially felt good that I got this job before graduation, as it felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders.
I started my full-time gig at the beginning of the new year. I have been here for about 3 months now, soon going on 4. I have never felt more comfortable and confident in a role before, and I owe it all to my team that I work so closely with on a day-to-day basis. I'm so lucky to do what I love alongside people who are there to support me every step of the way.
There are a few one off things here and there: my sister got engaged, I signed a lease for next year with my boyfriend, I finished setting up my office at work, I bought a gaming computer, and much more.
Overall, the year 2023 has been fantastic so far. I've already learned so much about "the real world" and how to navigate the young-adult professional role. I still have a lot of things to work on, mainly surrounding health and wellness, but I am super excited to continue on this year knowing that I have all the tools for success right at my finger tips.
