My Summer 2022 Playlist Picks

Emma Jensen

This summer has been a busy and overwhelming one (at least for me, that is). One way that I like to relax after a long day at work is by listening to my favorite music at the moment. Let me tell you, this summer has brought us some GREAT music, and I’m not talking about the songs that have popped up on TikTok recently. Let’s get into some of the more underrated songs that this summer had to offer.

Nonsense - Sabrina Carpenter

If you haven’t heard Sabrina’s new album emails I can’t send yet, then what are you doing? Not only do these songs cater to a sad girl summer, but a hot girl summer as well. The themes of this album are so intriguing while the sounds are so different from one another. To pick just one is a crime, I know. I think Nonsense had the best summer vibes to it. This song sounds like an Ariana Grande inspired beat and vocals, but Sabrina definitely made it her own. It’s not my favorite song on the album (that would be Tornado Warnings or Read Your Mind) but this is a fantastic song to get you started.

Love Again - Dua Lipa

This song has been one of my all time favorites for awhile, but I haven’t heard it played much on the radio or anywhere else. This song did come out in 2021, but has all the summer vibes tied to it. I am obsessed with Dua Lipa’s sound, I think her voice is so unique and the disco pop aura she is giving off is quite enjoyable. If you haven’t heard this yet, go give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Secret - Joshua Bassett

Sadly, I do keep up with the love drama between Joshua and you know who, but all jokes aside they seem to be moved past it and so am I. Joshua is an incredible artist, and I feel like his work is overshadowed by all the drama he has been caught up in recently. He has a smooth, beautiful voice that I think we all knew he had, but were shocked when we heard it on his own original songs. Secret is one of my favorite Joshua Bassett songs (next to Lie Lie Lie, of course). He carries such poise and hsa great lyricism that his songs are so enjoyable to listen to and decode.

Corazón Frío - NEZZA

If you watch Kian and JC on YouTube then you probably know that their friend NEZZA creates music. She recently came out with a different song called Thirteen and it’s worth a listen too, but this song gives me the warm and fuzzies inside (which is ironic given the name). This is the first song from a YouTuber that I completely fell in love with. I think the maturity in her voice and the Spanish lyrics give her something that a lot of artists do not have. This is a must listen for this summer!

I Like You (A Happier Song) - Post Malone ft. Doja Cat

Okay, this song is a little more well known for obvious reasons, but I couldn’t not include it on this list. I’ve been a big fan of both Post Malone and Doja Cat for a while now and I think this collaboration was perfect. They both sound great and deliver a feel good vibe we all need right now. While this song may be played on the radio and TikTok, I don’t think it’s quite reached the point where it’s become unlistenable yet.. (if that’s even a word). Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point anytime soon, because I am really loving this song.

what would you do? - Tate McRae

The first time I heard of Tate McRae was on So You Think You Can Dance Juniors and she was definitely my pick to win that season. However, I remember scrolling on YouTube one day when I saw a familiar face. It was Tate singing an original song. I was so shocked because I didn’t know she could sing too! It was such an exciting discovery and ever since then I have been listening to every song she puts out and watching every music and lyric video that goes along with it. Right now in music, we are seeing a revival of a lot of rock and punk influences. This song is right up that alley, and I’m in love with it. Tate has so many songs, some popular and some underrated. I hope if you listen to and enjoy this song that you check out her whole discography. There are some fantastic songs in there (including my favorite, slower).
