My Go-To Skincare Products

Emma Jensen

There are times when my skin is doing great and then all of the sudden - yikes! My skin has always been a struggle for me. I had acne at a very young age and always tried to find products that would help me out, but could never seem to get a handle on it. I finally went to the dermatologist and started educating myself on my specific skin type and different products that would work well for me. I suggest you take the time to do the same if you are struggling, but to help get you started I am going to show you the products I use every night to help keep my skin as clear and smooth as possible.

Cetaphil Face Wipes

My dermatologist was the first one to recommend Cetaphil face cleansing products to me. I used their face wipes, body wash, face wash, and moisturizer religiously until the face wash plateau for my skin. I’ve heard a lot of people since talk very highly about Cetaphil products and truth be told I don’t have anything negative to say. I really liked their products and it worked (for a little while) so that should count for something. Personally, I have continued to use only two of their products and this is one of them. I have sensitive skin and these face/makeup wipes have been so gentle on my skin. They get off the majority of my makeup and for the spots I missed with the face wipe, the next product will pick up.

Garnier Micellar Water

I think I discovered micellar water by accident. My friend had gotten me a gift and it had a little bottle of Sephora micellar water in it. At the time, I had no idea what it was or how to use it, so like any human being, I googled it. I soon learned that it was a a skincare product and I figured I might as well try it out. I use a cotton pad and a little of the micellar water to get off any excess makeup I may have missed initially with the face wipes. My boyfriend even begs me to wipe his face at the end of the night with this stuff! It’s so refreshing and really helps with removing dirt or makeup.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water - $8.99

CeraVe Hydrating Face Wash

I heard a lot about CeraVe from multiple people and social media sites. I have dry to normal skin, so I made sure that I got the hydrating face wash, however, CeraVe does have an option for a foaming face wash for people with oily skin types. I personally love this face wash and it reminds me a lot of the Cetaphil formula. It’s milky-white and keeps your face feeling smooth after using it. To apply the face wash, I use my hands and move the face wash around my face in circle motions. Then, I use lukewarm water to rinse my face afterward and pat dry with a clean washcloth. Try to avoid scrubbing, rubbing, scraping, or anything of the sort when dealing with your skin!

CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser - $14.99

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid (Toning Solution)

Toner is my new favorite skincare product. I never really understood what toner did until a couple weeks ago. Toner removes any dirt or impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face. It also helps with your skin's pH level, improves skin tone, and smooths skin by refining rough patches. My favorite product to use for a toner is the Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution. I found mine at Ulta, but you can get it anywhere online. I highly suggest implementing this step into your skincare routine, it has really smoothed my skin and my skin tone is the most even it ever has been (and probably will ever be!)

The Ordinary Toning Solution - $8.70

The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum (Blemishes)

I use two serums by the Ordinary skincare brand. This brand started to get popular on TikTok with everyone telling their amazing success stories using these products. I understand the hype. This product has worked wonders for me, and I’m not completely sure if it’s this product alone or the specific mix of products that I use, but this has helped me erase any and every blemish that comes my way.

The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum - $5.90

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum (Hydration)

For a girl with dry skin, this serum has been my best friend. It’s so incredibly moisturizing and leaves my skin feeling so refreshed. Again, I found this when I was browsing through TikTok and I’m so glad I did. I had been struggling to find something that would actually provide moisture to my face other than a typical cream. If you have dry skin, I would highly recommend this product above all the others. It doesn’t cause breakouts and overall leaves your skin feeling super smooth.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum - $6.80

Cetaphil Body Moisturizer

Cetaphil doesn’t have a specific moisturizer for the face only, but that’s okay. This body moisturizer is so smooth and works wonders. I’ve used this since the beginning of my skin care journey and I will never switch up. This product has been my ride or die and I will pick this over any other moisturizer any day.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream - $8.99

Mighty Patches by Hero

These things… oh my god. I’ve always wanted to try these and recently I saw them at Target and thought I’d pick some up. Best decision ever. However, when I went back to Target to pick up more they were all gone! I know so many people who use these so I’m not surprised that they were sold out. I just went on amazon and got next day delivery for a bundle of them. Personally, my two favorites and the only ones I’ve really tried are the originals and the micro point for blemishes. The originals help with typical pimples on the surface of your skin and the micro point patches help with under the skin acne (the ones that are super painful). Personally I get both types of blemishes, so these are my go to. All you have to do is put the patch over the blemish and wait. Typically, I will put one on before bed and take it off in the morning. By then, my blemishes have gone down or even gone away completely. However, you can wear them throughout the day too if that’s better for you and your lifestyle. I love this product and I am continually surprised by how they work and how well they work every time I use them.
